Meet the face behind the posts
Welcome to my blog, dear reader. I am a daughter, a sister of a severely autistic brother, the mother of three boys, a lover, a friend, a realtor, a singer, a writer, an entertainer, and a lover of people, my name is Aprile DeAnne McKinnon. I cherish life, just like you do. However, I have also encountered numerous challenges, struggles, heartaches, and losses along the way. Since I was a young child I have tried to find humor in situations that have been difficult. I have an odd sense of humor and maybe a little to odd for some, but I think it was a way of coping. How about you? Like you, I have experienced both the joys and pains of human connection. People have brought me immense happiness, but I have also felt the sting of betrayal and disappointment. Life has knocked me down and built me up, teaching me valuable lessons in the process. Throughout my journey, I have gathered precious nuggets of wisdom that I hope to share with you. We all have stories to tell, and perhaps yours resonates deeply with mine. I yearn to learn from your experiences, just as I hope you will find something meaningful in mine. I have so much to share with you: the emotional roller coaster of my child battling cancer, the journey of acceptance when my child shared her sexual orientation and later her decision to transition. I have a tale of a long marriage, almost reaching the 22-year mark, that I chose to walk away from with nothing but $800 in my pocket. I have a story of reinventing myself when I felt lost, scared, discouraged, and anxious. But I also found myself, discovered my voice, became encouraged, and found peace. Amidst uncertainty, I learned to find joy and trust that every little thing would be alright. I relied on something bigger than myself, faithfully leaning on my faith. So, my friend, buckle up and join me on this blog journey.
